Wall Street Journal article about why leveraged ETFs are not delivering the promised returns. Effect of compounding is to blame. Bigger the daily moves, worse the distortion. "Compounding of those daily moves result in longer-term returns that have a very different relationship to the longer-term returns of the underlying index."
